Menhir Photonics: First Industrial GHz Laser at 1030 nm

Menhir Photonics has announced a major leap in laser technology, unveiling the MENHIR-1030 at 1 GHz, the industry’s first industrial-grade gigahertz repetition rate laser at 1030 nm, setting a new standard for precision and reliability.

The laser delivers femtosecond soliton pulses with an exceptionally clean optical spectrum, low timing jitter, and high pulse-to-pulse stability approaching fundamental physical limits. Its design ensures 24/7 operation, high reliability, and eliminates maintenance and external cooling, making it ideal for demanding industrial and research applications.

“It pushes the boundaries of what typical fiber lasers would do in the past,” explains Dr. Jonas Heidrich, Product Line Manager at Menhir Photonics. “We can go to much higher repetition rate, we have much lower noise and a system that is totally robust and turnkey. These are the key advantages, and this is where we really bring value.”

The MENHIR-1030 at 1 GHz addresses growing demands across multiple fields including quantum technologies, high-intensity light generation, free electron lasers, and material processing applications. The system features repetition rate and carrier-envelope offset frequency control options, allowing synchronization to external clock systems for precise timing control and high-end optical comb applications.

Versatile applications with breakthrough performance

The MENHIR-1030’s versatility supports advancements in quantum technologies, high-intensity light generation, free electron lasers, and material processing. The laser also offers practical solutions for retrofitting older systems, bringing new capabilities to existing facilities with a more robust and compact approach.

Simplified integration with superior reliability

A standout feature of the MENHIR-1030 is its simplified operation and integration capabilities. “The big benefit is that the customer gets a laser that they can put on the table or in their system, and just turn it on,” emphasizes Dr. Heidrich.

The MENHIR-1030 offers a plug-and-play setup, eliminating the need for external cooling or maintenance, and reducing cost of ownership by up to 50%. Its stable performance ensures reliable operation in critical applications.

Leveraging its established expertise, Menhir Photonics transferred its knowledge from the successful MENHIR-1550 to this new laser. The MENHIR-1030 at 1 GHz, along with its 160 MHz counterpart, will be showcased at upcoming industry events, including Laser World of Photonics in Munich, from June 24th-27th.
